In the Spring of 2001, the Ontario
provincial government agreed to invest $60 milllion as a first step in making
Durham College a world-class university and research centre. Durham College
will be combined with the new University of Ontario Institute of Technology
(U.O.I.T.) to provide practical and theoretical study.
In June 2001, The Planning Partnership and Brad Johnson and Associates were
retained to develop a campus Master Plan for Durham College/U.O.I.T.
lands to the north and south of Conlin Road on Simcoe Street in north Oshawa.
The BA Consulting Group, transportation consultants to the college, were to
advise the plan.
The initial planning phase was to
establish a campus for a F.T.E. (full time enrolment) student population of
10,000 on the south campus - the lands bounded by Conlin Road, Simcoe Street
and the Oshawa Creek. The following report sets out a plan establishing the
principal elements of the building development, public spaces, access and parking
which will serve to guide the development of the south campus.
